Cookie Policy
Last updated: 25 November 2025
This policy explains how AssetIndex uses browser storage. We are transparent about every piece of data your browser holds on our behalf — and we do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.
Quick summary
- •We use a small amount of browser storage to keep you signed in.
- •We do not use third-party tracking, advertising, or analytics.
- •No data leaves your browser without serving a function you can identify.
- •You can clear browser data at any time from your browser settings.
3.1 What This Policy Covers
This policy describes all forms of browser storage that AssetIndex relies on — including HTTP cookies, localStorage, and sessionStorage. We refer to these collectively as "browser storage."
AssetIndex currently uses localStorage rather than traditional cookies for session management. The privacy considerations are similar, and we treat both with the same transparency.
3.2 What We Use and Why
a. Essential Browser Storage
These items are necessary for the platform to function. Without them, you cannot stay signed in or use the service.
- Authentication token — a secure token stored in your browser's localStorage that identifies your active session. Cleared when you sign out or your session expires.
- User profile metadata — your display name and email, stored locally so the interface can greet you without making an additional server request.
b. Functional Storage
These items support specific platform features. They do not track your behaviour.
- Demo state — if you use the "Try AssetIndex" demo before creating an account, your sample asset records and trusted contacts are stored locally so you can return to them. This is cleared automatically once you register, or anytime you choose to clear browser data.
- Session activity tracking — a lightweight in-browser timer monitors keyboard and mouse activity to automatically sign you out during periods of inactivity. This information stays in your browser and is never transmitted to our servers.
c. What We Do Not Use
AssetIndex does not use:
- Third-party advertising cookies.
- Cross-site tracking pixels.
- Behavioural analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Mixpanel).
- Fingerprinting techniques to identify users beyond their session.
3.3 Server-Side Logging
Like nearly all web services, our servers automatically record basic request information for security and reliability purposes:
- IP address and browser type (used to detect abuse and protect against attacks).
- Timestamp and endpoint accessed.
These logs are not linked to advertising or analytics platforms. They are retained for a limited period (typically 30 days) and used only for security monitoring.
3.4 Your Choices
You are in control of your browser storage at all times:
- You can clear AssetIndex's stored data through your browser's privacy settings.
- You can sign out at any time, which removes your authentication token.
- You can use the platform in private or incognito browsing mode (note: you will need to sign in each session).
Disabling essential browser storage will prevent the platform from functioning. We will not work around your choice — if you opt out, we will not attempt to track you by other means.
3.5 Future Changes
We may, in the future, introduce optional features that use additional browser storage — for example, a feature to remember interface preferences. Where these are not strictly essential, we will request your explicit consent before enabling them.
Any material change to this policy will be communicated by email or platform notice at least 30 days in advance.
